This interior design project transformed a penthouse apartment on the Slovenian coast. The client wanted a shabby chic atmosphere with carefully selected furniture and details. The former family home was adapted into a boutique apartment for business and holiday stays.
Interior design around a specific brief
The brief included a preference for natural materials and a distinctive character. The room arrangement and the available space set practical limits. Materials, furniture and finishes therefore had to work together rather than being selected in isolation.
One particular request was to avoid sharp edges on the internal doors. Finding a carpenter able to make the rounded oak doors took time. Drying and the special finishing process also influenced the programme.
Bespoke oak doors

The client initially imagined white doors. After discussion with the carpenter, the natural appearance of oak was retained. The timber brought warmth to the apartment and became part of its character.
This decision illustrates why samples and early coordination matter. A material can change the way a room feels, while its production requirements can affect the schedule. Resolve these details before other work depends on them.
A compact rustic kitchen
DANKÜCHEN supplied a rustic kitchen for a space of approximately 4 m². The challenge was to include the required functions in a very small area. The layout had to remain intuitive and usable despite the limited space.
The bathroom required a different purchasing decision. A suitable basin and mirror were selected from a mainstream furniture supplier when a more appropriate alternative was not found. The final choice followed the room and the client’s priorities.
From a visual idea to coordinated details
Interior design involves more than an attractive image. Openings, joinery, services and finishes must be coordinated. Bespoke items need enough time for technical discussion, manufacture and installation.
The photographs on the original project document a specific completed commission. They are useful references for atmosphere and detailing rather than a standard specification for another apartment.
